More Shimmery Goodness

Hey everyone~

Welcome to another day of shimmery goodness! Have you been enjoying the samples this week? I sure have!

Today, Laura & I (Cindy) are sharing a couple of samples using Shimmerz fabulous paints.

First up is Laura's gorgeous sample:

When Julie suggested we do a Shimmerz week, I was thrilled, 'cus you know I love all things that sparkle and shine, and Shimmerz is just that! When I opened the package with my glorious colours, I knew I had to paint my Sweet Peas..it was just too perfect. I kept the card really simple, adding a gold ribbon slide and a gold embossed sentiment from Sweet Violets. The Martha Stewart lace doily punch and some gold half back pearls finish it perfectly. Here's a close up of the Shimmerz!

Stamps: Sweet Peas, Sweet Violets (Flourishes), Paper: Classic White, Rich Razzleberry Ink: Versafine Onyx Black Accessories: Gold Ribbon Slide, Rich Razzleberry ribbon, gold half back pearls, Martha Stewart Lace Doily punch, Magenta, Sugarplum, Pink and Green Olive Shimmerz paints


For my sample, I chose the I Love Roses stamp set. I love the vintage appeal of the roses in this set, and I thought it would work perfectly with the Shimmerz paints.

I combined the Orange Sherbet & Burgundy Shimmerz on my rose, a combo I would not normally put together. I was oh-so-pleasantly surprised at how pretty they look together. For the leaves, I used the Green Olive and accented with Burgundy.

Bring on the Shimmerz!

Gosh have the samples from our Flourishes designers been sparkling this week! It's all because of a powerful little paint called Shimmerz! This week the designers swapped spots with the Shimmerz DT in order to show off some of these sparkly paints and show you how to make your projects shine using Shimmerz..... and Flourishes!

Today Faith and I are showing off some fun creations!

Here's a peek at Faith's card done up in a vibrant red with those beautiful poppies from the Poppy Patch stamp set.

Faith stamped the poppies using VersaMark ink and then she embossed her image with black embossing powder.. The blooms were colored in with Shimmerz colors: Royal Red, Burgandy. The leaves were colored in with Shimmerz colors: Celery and Evergreen.Next, the images were cut out and adhered to the oval Nesties. She makes it sound so simple! What a gorgeous card she's created.

I decided to go for a little Christmas in July look and grabbed my All That Glitters set!
I stamped my ornament onto a piece of solid red from the Wassail collection from Basic Grey using Versamark ink and then embossed it in gold detail embossing powder. I cut it out and then, covered the entire bulb with Candlelight Shimmerz. I wanted to give it some understated elegance with a bit of glimmer! This color paint is a kind of neutral and does not change the color you have underneath one bit!

The mechanics of the card are rather simple! I used the Labels Three Nestabilities die for my main mat. After I embossed, I used a light grit sandpaper to take off some of the color on the edges of my shape. I used the Nestabilities circles for the main image and circular mat. Add some Kaiser Pearls, some ribbon and a decorative edge punch and voila! A Christmas card raring to go in July!

This week Cindy Haffner is our host. This week at Flourishes it is all about shimmerz so Cindy is challenging us to get out our little pots of shimmerz, shake them up, and use them on our cards. There are so many wonderful ways to use these little pots of shine to add just the perfect touches of shimmer to a card. As always, if you do not have any shimmerz, yet, no problem. All we ask is that you add some shimmer and shine to your cards. We cannot wait to see what you create!!!

Let's go she what the blog design team created using shimmerz!!!

First up is our challenge host, Cindy Haffner. Cindy is is using the newly released Strawberries stamp set. Cindy colored the strawberries using Flourishes Copic Color Collections in Spring Greens, Hollyhock, and Poppy. Cindy added some shimmerz to the leaves and strawberries to create her shimmer. She layered the image with spellbinders. Love the patterns and ribbon detailing. Beautifully done, Cindy!!!

Up next is Kimberly Crawford. Kimberly is using the newly released Beach Life stamp set. She stamped the palm trees using versamark. Kim embossed the trees and sponged over some pigment chalk ink. Kim put the shimmerz in a fine misting bottle and sprayed a couple of coats of shimmerz over the whole piece to create a shimmery background effect!!! Kim is also giving us a little peak at a soon to be released spellbinders label 8 shape!!! Wonderful colors, technique, and design, Kim!!!

Next is, Silke Ledlow . Silke is using the newly released Strawberries stamp set as well. Silke is also using the Flourishes Copic Color Collections in Spring Greens, Hollyhock, and Poppy. Silke added shimmerz to sections of the fruits, leaves, and flowers to create a shimmery highlight effect. Love this look with the product, too!! Fantastic layout and design!!! Great coloring and detailing, Silke. Beautifully done!!!

Next, is Betty Wright. I am using one of my favorite Flourishes sets called Thank You. I am using some basicgray eva designer paper. I chose to create shimmer and sparkle to my card by using only the shimmerz to color the image. I am using royal red and celery shimmerz. I used Flourishes Copic Color Collections in Cool Neutrals. I specifically used the C1 to add shadow to my image. The shimmerz is beautiful and dries very fast!!! I love the look!!!

Shimmerz Week

Hi, there, everyone! Leslie, here, to kick off Shimmerz week on the Newsletter! The team has gotten their hands on a few of these delicious little pots of shimmery paint, and we're shining north, south, east and west. You can see all the irresistible Shimmerz colors here.

I've had a great time experimenting with these paints and the many options for using them. Did you know you can even emboss with them? Just sprinkle embossing powder over your image while the paint is still wet, or use a separate container to mix a little clear embossing ink with your Shimmerz paint to insure it stays wet longer. You can stipple a background, or give it a shimmery color wash. You can paint a little shimmer onto your ribbon. Or you can paint right over top of an image you've colored with another medium. That's what I did with the card I'm sharing today.

I used the Peony set and a sentiment from Strawberries. I colored the peony with Copics from the Hollyhock, Evergreen, and Buttercup collections. When that coloring was complete, I painted the pink flower with Orange Sherbet Shimmerz. It gave me a new color and some shimmer to boot. In the areas where I wanted to add shimmer, but didn't want to alter the color, I used Angel Wings, which is clear.



It's difficult to capture the delicate shimmer in a photo and, though I tried, I couldn't manage with just one photo. This angle gives a better idea but, you know, there's nothing like seeing something up close and personal:






Christine has a sample today, too. She's chosen an excellent subject to shimmer up, and did it in a most beautiful manner. She's used the shells from Seaside Life and a sentiment from Beach Life. Here's what she has to say about it:


"I've embossed these pretty shells on our Classic White paper and then painted on the Shimmerz with my water brush. The Shimmerz pots work just like paint (though make sure you shake them really well before you begin so the shimmery material comes to the top). Then I could color in my shell just as I normally would with other coloring mediums. The color in these two selections is lighter (Key Lime and Sky Blue), so it gives it a subtle color with lots of shine. It looks even prettier in person! I also stamped the seaweed on the background with white craft ink, then painted over it with the Key Lime Shimmerz to highlight it. I think it makes it feel more "under the sea". I thought the colors would work perfectly with this BasicGrey Lily Kate paper, a little silk ribbon, and the Kaiser pearls. A soft and delicate feel."
